Game of the Month - December 2025 Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

2025 is coming to an end, and December brings a good variety of game releases to rock the holiday season.  Beat ‘em up and Marvel fans (like myself) have been looking forward to Marvel Cosmic Invasion (Dec 1).  I know many RPG fans in the MegaDads discord (join our conversations!) are looking forward to Octopath Traveler 0 (Dec 4).  I was pleasantly surprised to see Mutant League Football is coming out with a sequel on December 10th, and my nostalgia feels from my Genesis days are tingling.  Despite all these being appealing to me, the Game of the Month for December 2025 that I’m most anticipating is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a return to the first-person action/exploration shooter genre.  Samus Aran is attacked by a rival bounty hunter and finds herself on planet Viewros, and must use both new and familiar abilities to explore and escape the world. Samus gains new psychic abilities and the Vi-0-La motorcycle to travel across the desert terrain.    

I’m one of those gamers who always loved Metroid, but wasn’t always the best at them when I was younger.  Metroid Prime was one of the first Metroid games that I could play through, even though I was skeptical of Metroid as a shooter after loving the platformers.  Like many other gamers who love Metroid, I’ve been ready for Metroid Prime 4 to release since finishing Metroid Prime 3 about 18 years ago.  Each Nintendo Direct, there was a small spark of hope that they would announce more since the initial announcement back in 2017.  I’ve been playing a lot of Castleroids/Metroidvanias lately, and there’s a reason why Metroid became half of a genre.
