Game of the Month (March 2026) - Pokémon Pokopia

March is here, and most of us here at MegaDads are happy that winter is almost over.  We will slowly shake off the frost, emerge from our dark, cozy homes where we hibernated and played games all winter, and….we’ll probably retreat from the sunlight back into the dark, cozy home to play more games.  Game Freak and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force just dropped a "cozy bomb" on the Nintendo Switch 2 releasing this month. Pokémon Pokopia isn't just a spin-off; it’s the series' most ambitious departure since Legends: Arceus. My interest has peaked, so this game is going to be MegaDad’s Game of the Month.

Pokémon Pokopia is a creative life simulation game developed by Koei Tecmo and Game Freak, and published by Nintendo. Imagine the village-building of Animal Crossing mixed with the creative crafting of Dragon Quest Builders. You play as a Ditto who has taken human form, tasked by Professor Tangrowth to turn a lonely island into a thriving Pokémon paradise. No gym badges, no world-ending threats—just vibes and landscaping. You might think of Pokémon as a lively, happy world, but this isn't the Kanto we remember. You’re exploring a post-human world, cleaning up habitats to lure home over 300 species of Pokémon. Your Pokémon aren't just decorative; they have jobs! Bulbasaur uses Leafage to grow lush grass, Squirtle handles the irrigation, and new variants like Mosslax (a moss-covered Snorlax) and Peakychu bring unique benefits to your town’s "Environment Level."

Pokopia seems to be a mix of Pokémon, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft, and that’s got triple appeal for this MegaDad. For the busy dad, Pokopia is a godsend. It features a multiplayer mode for up to four players (supporting Gameshare!) so you can build houses and play hide-and-seek with your kids or the rest of the MegaDads crew. Plus, it’s a technical showcase for the Switch 2, proving that "cozy" can still look "next-gen." Just another game to push me to finally own a Switch 2!  Keep exclusive games like this coming, Nintendo, and I’ll be running out to purchase the Switch 2 before long.

Pokémon Pokopia releases on March 5 for the Switch 2.
