Game of the Month (November 2025) - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

November is here, and there’s a lot to be thankful for from this year in gaming.  November begins a season of sales and holiday releases, so we should all be keeping an eye on the stores! This month, however, seems to be heavier on the Switch 2 releases and special editions and lighter on the new IPs.  As usual, there are releases that may appeal to just about every type of gamer, but my hype level is admittedly a little lackluster. There are a few that caught my eye that I could name as the MegaDads’ Game of the Month, but the November 2025 game I chose to talk about for this article is Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.

Are any of you really wondering what this game is?  It’s Legend of Zelda in another Hyrule Warriors iteration, which is a squad-based musou action game (think games like Dynasty Warriors where there are lots of enemies in a large battlefield with objectives to accomplish).  This time around, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is telling the story of Zelda after she falls backwards through time during the events of Tears of the Kingdom.  In TotK, we got flashbacks and snippets of what happened to her and how she shaped events in history through her journey.  In Age of Imprisonment, we get to play Zelda and the other characters that forged the history of Hyrule to imprison Ganondorf.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment may not get as much hype as a mainline Legend of Zelda game from me, but Hyrule Warriors always catches my eye.  I haven’t picked up Tears of the Kingdom since I completed it when it came out years ago, but it’s one of those games I could easily start back up again and love all over again.  I’ve tried both Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and while they don’t hold my heart and my attention quite as much as Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, they’re solid games and a lot of fun to play in small bursts.  They’re also not hard to pick back up again after a long period of inactivity – which is key in my busy life.  Every now and then I’ll pop Age of Calamity into my Switch and smash through hordes of creatures with Link and his friends to burn off some steam.  Age of Imprisonment looks to continue that streak with me (once I get a Switch 2), and I would definitely recommend this to any gamers who are NOT looking for a typical RPG or Legend of Zelda game, but ARE looking to smash through battlefields worth of enemy squads with melee and magical skills in an action rpg type of game.  The story is there holding the game together, but these types of games are more for those gamers who want the story to be in the background while you hack and slash your way through historical Hyrule.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment releases on November 6, 2025 for Switch 2 consoles.
